Laptop recommendations for Gucians (EARLY 2020)

We all need laptops as students, whether we'll use it for studying, gaming, programming, video editing, or any other uses. However everyone must consider the uses for the laptop he is planning to buy. Applied arts or architecture students who could use programs that require rendering and editing like Adobe after effects, 3D max, Revit, Solidworks, etc.... must buy expensive laptops with high specs. Meanwhile MET students buying laptops for programming aren't forced to these high specs and can be satisfied with much lower specs. Anyways for every budget and every use we will recommend a laptop from 10K EGP up to 20K EGP. We could do another series for 25K - 50K if there is any interest in this category.

1- Dell Inspiron 3576 - (BUDGET OPTION) - 11000 EGP

If your budget is tight and you need a laptop right now, this is your best choice. You can expect this laptop to serve just for the use required but it can fit for lightweight and moderate loads. Don't expect much from this laptop, and never ever go for a laptop under 10K for any purpose. Even for Microsoft office and internet browsing we never recommend any laptop under 10K, it'll turn your life into hell.

Pros:

        Cheap
gets the job done for multiple purposes

Cons:

        Too Heavy
        No SSD
        No Warranty
        Cheap build quality

You can view full specs and buy from this link
Dell 11K SOUQ LINK

2- Dell Gaming laptop G5 15-5587 - (Cheap and semi-powerful) - 15300 EGP

If you need a cheap and powerful laptop and your priority is high specs over battery and portability then this should be your choice. This laptop is so good for gaming, and of course any lightweight uses like programming, office, etc.. .However if you are looking to use very heavy programs like the ones stated above you should consider another choices.

Pros:
Excellent for gamers on a budget
Sold by Souq ( not a seller on souq ) so more trusted.

Cons:
        Heavy
        No Warranty
        Still not the best

DELL 15K SOUQ LINK

3-Lenovo LEGION Y530 Gaming Laptop - (Most Powerful) - 19999 EGP

If you are here for high specs and intense workload laptop where you can do any kind of work whether gaming or using a heavy software like Adobe after effects, 3D max, Revit, Solidworks, etc... then this must be your choice. Note that the cost of this very string power comes in the form of heavy weight and lower battery life.

Pros:
Excellent for inense and heavy workload
        Good display quality
        Good for gaming as well.

Cons:
        Heavy
        No Warranty
        Low battery lifetime

You can view full specs and buy from this link
LENOVO 20K SOUQ LINK

4- Apple MacBook Air 13 inch - (Most Portable) - 16499 EGP

If you have a Desktop PC at home or you don't play games or use heavy software, and you need the most suitable laptop for outdoor use then look no further. Even if you're not a fan of Apple products this laptop is perfect for lightweight use and even programming. You could carry this laptop like a copybook and you won't need to carry it's charger as the battery should last the entire uni day.

Pros:
        Super lightweight
        Super long battery life
1 Year warranty and sold by Souq
        Perfect for programming use

Cons:
Not suitable for gaming or heavy software
        Only 128 GB capacity

You can view full specs and buy from this link
APPLE MACBOOK AIR 16K SOUQ LINK

5- HP Envy 13 inch - (Best Overall) - 21200 EGP

Let's break our range by just 1K, but we'll have good overall performance in all areas and it would nearly suite all uses. This laptop can be used for nearly all uses while also having enough space, medium battery life, and low weight. It's the only one in this list from Jumia.

Pros:
        Low weight
        Full HD Touchscreen
        1 Year warranty
        Suits for everything

Cons:
Not as powerful as the lenovo Legion or Dell G5
Battery lifetime not as long as the macbook air

CS4 success guide

Brief Information about the course

Forget all CS courses, this one is the most interesting. Even if the game isn't that good, at least it's the first time you put information you study into practical use. This course is also different in grade distribution aspects, no Midterm and Final (ONLY ONE ) which means if you have midterm then no final and vice versa. No in class assignments or quizzes, just projects and project evaluations (quizzes on your game). This course is heaven for Achievers and Procrastinators, you can get high grades easily, and you can pass with minimal efforts.

Success guide for Achievers:

- Final OR Midterm, you will have only one as stated above, this is the only area you will probably lose marks, otherwise you will hopefully score full marks.

- BEWARE Milestone 3 aka GUI. This is the first time you will need self study in a massive degree. What you will learn about GUI in Lectures and tutorials won't be enough. You will need lots of visits to YouTube, Stack Overflow, and Game room (you'll know what's this when the course starts).

- START EARLY, as soon as you can start after the milestone is released. Why? well, actually you can finish 80% of the milestone in 1 day, but the remaining 20% will get you pulling your hair out and can require very long time to solve the errors.

Success guide for Procrastinators:

- GOOD TEAM. What's worse than a procrastinator? Well, a team of procrastinators. If you're one of these please find yourself a good or balanced team. You should have friends by now that can carry you through hard times, but a team of procrastinators like you? The result may be disastrous.

- Never Make 0% contribution. You can take the easy part, do whatever you can do in the milestone. Always try to keep in touch with the project code and understand code parts written by other team members.

- Project Evaluations aka Quizzes. Forget old quizzes weighing 5 or 10% each. One milestone evaluation weighs 22% approx. Quizzes take place through a week. If you're in any day,but the first day of the week, solve quizzes of previous day(s). Yours would probably be very similar.

Wishing you success through your entire life.
